Rize is an Agri-Tech startup formed through a joint venture between Temasek, Wavemaker Impact, Breakthrough Energy Ventures, GenZero to decarbonize rice cultivation in Asia. It is building a platform to identify and implement the most effective strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in rice cultivation, and the right economic incentives across the value chain to drive the adoption of sustainable cultivation techniques. Rize’s initial target markets are Indonesia and Vietnam, to be followed by India with plans to expand more broadly within the region. Rize seeks to collaborate with and build on the good work already carried out by organizations, corporates, startups, and academic institutions in the region.

Listen, we have this crazy idea to elevate farmers in SEA and also decarbonize rice.

We really believe we can do it. There are 12million farmer in Indonesia alone but it’s really disorganized; theres no coops, farmers groups, logistics nor technology to unite them. We want to solve this. Think like AirBNB. Or Uber. But with farmers. Rice Farmers specifically.

Why?

Well if we can build this network, we will be able to deploy new seeds, new fertilizers, new mechanization, new business models, new technologies that can increase the farmers’ income, increase their quality of life and reduce green house gas emissions from rice!
